Process manufacturing as utilized in the food industry is much more complex than Discrete manufacturing employed by manufactures of durable goods. In process manufacturing we talk about ingredients, not parts; pounds, not pieces and formula's in bill of materials, not just a list. We make sure to accommodate intermediate mixtures and multiple units of measure that may be added in gallons, liters or pounds. We understand what an intermediate product is (WIP) and that many WIP's don't have a 1 to 1 ratio of what they can become. We understand you need to track the lots of not only every ingredient but anything that touches the final product. We know that if there is a contamination you need to know what is left of that product, exactly what it went into and where physically are the final product's. This information can be recalled using Instatrace within minutes.
